Dentistry & Hypnotherapy
In a recent study over 75% of dental patients questioned stated that they had a level of anxiety before an appointment. These are the patients that actually attended, how many are too frightened? 15 million people in the UK have some form of stress related condition, the demand for smile enhancement and implant restorations continue to grow. Calm Horizon offers a service that combines clinical hypnotherapy and dental experience to be an asset and business benefit to your practice.
If your patient is nervous, stressed, frightened of needles, the sound of the drill, the smell of the surgery, the pain that might be too much for them, we can help. They will probably take up that course of treatment.
The use of hypnosis in dentistry is not uncommon. In any medical library you can find hundreds articles that cover every type of hypnotic therapy. You will see journals featuring David Waxman, Milton Erickson, Corydon Hammond. As well the more familiar psychoanalytical and behavioural pioneers such as Freud, Wolpe, Jung and Adler.
Some quantitive research and the use of MRI scanners and electrocephalagrams show clearly the changes in brain activity in the trance state. Levels of anxiety, stress, blood flow, pain threshold and subconscious habits such as bruxism all decrease through a combination of relaxation and direct suggestion.
Many theories have been put forward as to what hypnosis is. The answer may lie in the Prefrontal Cortex of our brain, in the autonomic nervous system, in the vast and powerful subconscious mind that carries our life history in memories and emotions. We at Calm Horizon are comfortable with hypnosis being defined as a state of heightened awareness through relaxation. Through hypnosis, objectivity, clarity and resolution can be achieved with most neurotic symptoms.
